Current opportunity - Sponsor a new Lifeline Telephone Crisis Supporter
To fully train a new telephone crisis supporter costs approximately $5,000 per counsellor. We need about 300 Telephone Counsellors on our books to be able to attend to calls 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, with 2 to 4 Counsellors per shift.
All our Telephone Crisis Supporters are unpaid volunteers. Your sponsorship is used to provide the necessary recruitment, training, supervision, equipment, reference manuals and professional support required.
It takes a year to fully train and accredit a volunteer to a stage where they can confidently and independently handle the full range of complex problems, after which they volunteer an average of 4 to 6 hours per fortnight. Our centre answered 22,000 calls last year - a monetary contribution towards the cost of a new Crisis Supporter is the best way to ensure Lifeline can continue to answer calls for help when they are most needed.
